This is MY INNOVATION story

Welder | Don Leonard

I’ve found that old school thinking can lead to new ways of innovating.

I’ve been working for MKS for 23 years. I’ve seen the company change in many ways. One thing that has always been the same though, is that having the courage to bring new ideas, especially ones that get customers what they need faster and better, those ideas are always welcome.

So when I had some ideas on how we could be using one of the welding machines more, I brought it up to my manager. This particular welding machine was only doing one job, welding the same-size pieces together. The rest of the time it was just sitting unused, because it only did one thing. Maybe I’m old school, but I couldn’t help but think that was a waste. What if we refit it to do more?

We gave it a try, using stuff we already had. We programmed more options, added fixtures, and there we had it. The same machine doing a lot more. Sometimes finding new possibilities just takes an old school approach.

If you’re looking for the freedom to introduce and develop new ideas, we’d love to hear from you.
