Do I need any additional instrumentation or controllers to operate MKS Heaters?

No - Each heater is self-controlled. All you need to do is to connect the power cord to the facility power and go!

What if I have a special shape or I cannot find the specific heater from the catalog?

No problem! In fact most of our heaters are custom made.

What information is needed for MKS to quote a heater or set of heaters?

We need dimensional information of the part to be heated, whether you want a factory set point (Series 46) or the ability to adjust the set point (Series 48), input voltage, set point temperature, and if ordering the Series 46, whether a Low Temperature Alert (LTA) function is desired.

Can I connect a 48 series heater into a line that is currently using 46 series heaters?

Yes - An adapter cable is available.

How can I adjust the temperature or other settings on the 48 series heaters?

You can use the optional interface module or communicate via Modbus RS485.

What is the maximum set point temperature available for 46 or 48 series heaters?

185° C.

How many heaters can be connected on a single power drop?

This is dependent on heater construction. The limit is determined by the overall current draw of the heater set. Maximum draw per power drop is 12 Amps.

How do I lock out the 48 series so that once the settings are implemented, they cannot be locally changed?

If the standard faceplate or the communication-only module is used, no adjustments can be made. Simply use one of the display modules to make your adjustments and then swap out the faceplate with one mentioned above.

Can I upgrade the 48 series heaters if I initially order them without communication?

Yes- just order the communication modules and swap the faceplate on the heater. You do not need to power down the heaters to do this.

I am getting a flashing red LED on the heater and it appears not to be functioning. What should I do?

The first step is to power cycle the heater from the input side of the controller. If you disconnect the heater from the controller and then reconnect, it will continue to have an error. The connection between the heater and the controller must be made before applying power to the system. If a problem still exists, determine the error code via the display interface or via communications (explained further in the manual).
